At St Joseph’s we recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. As one of the core subjects taught in primary schools, we give the teaching of Science the prominence it requires. We aim to build a lifelong curiosity and interest in the sciences. We offer opportunities for our children to learn through varied, systematic investigations, leading to them being equipped for life to ask and answer scientific questions about the world around them.

Children will build upon learned skills as they progress through year groups, increasing their ability to work scientifically, build upon their scientific knowledge and develop greater independence in planning and carrying out fair and comparative tests to answer a range of scientific questions.

The acquisition of key scientific knowledge is an integral part of our science lessons. We seek to build important, useful and powerful vocabulary within each lesson. Our science curriculum is designed to develop our children’s ability to know more, remember more and explain more within the sciences. At St Joseph’s we strive to make our children feel confident in their scientific knowledge and enquiry skills, which creates excitement in the subject and an active curiosity to learn more and see the relevance of what they learn in science lessons to real-life situations and the importance of Science in the real world.
